At This is Athens – Agora, sustainability isn’t a side project—it’s at the heart of everything we do. From bold environmental actions to thoughtful everyday choices, we’re building a gathering that’s lighter on the planet and richer in purpose. Here’s how:
Eco-Friendly from Start to Finish:
Digital invitations and registrations keep paper waste to a minimum
Energy-efficient lighting, sound, and scheduling help us cut down on power and noise
We’ve said a firm no to single-use plastics—across the board
Local and Sustainable Dining
Menus focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, with plenty of plant-forward options
Water refill service across the site mean fewer bottles, less waste, and more impact
We’re working with Athenian producers to reduce food miles and support the local economy
Waste Not, Want Not
Recycling points are easy to find across the venue
Event materials like pencils and notebooks are made from recycled, upcycled, or natural materials
Leftover food finds a new purpose through Boroume, a local Greek NGO that turns surplus into support—making sure no good meal goes to waste
Tech for Good
All schedules, maps, and info are digital, helping us ditch unnecessary printouts
You’ll find smart tips inside on how to reduce your own impact—before, during and after the event
We guide you to the greenest way around, from walking routes to public transport options
Measuring and Offsetting Our Impact
We are gathering primary/raw data from the organizer, suppliers, and participants to get a true picture
Emissions are calculated using international carbon accounting standards (Scopes 1, 2 and selected 3)
Every tonne of CO₂ will be fully offset through verified climate positive projects
A full post-event Carbon Report and Carbon Neutrality Certificate will be published—because accountability matters! These initiatives collectively demonstrate the event's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices within the community.
Join us in making a difference, one event at a time!
This is Athens Agora takes a bold, hands-on approach to sustainability—not as a marketing gesture, but as a core element of its design and execution from This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau. For the first time, the City of Athens is conducting a full carbon footprint assessment of a public event. We’ve partnered with Green Evolution, a specialized Sustainability consultancy with global expertise in carbon accounting, to do this right. From transportation and energy use to materials and waste management, every aspect of the event has been carefully planned to reduce environmental impact.
What sets this initiative apart is its commitment to measurable results. Emissions are calculated based on international standards (Scopes 1, 2 and selected 3), using primary data gathered from participants and suppliers. The event’s footprint will not only be fully offset through verified mechanisms, but also documented in a detailed post-event report and certified Carbon Neutrality Certificate. This level of transparency and accountability sets a new benchmark for how public events can be designed in harmony with the planet.
